We had a wonderful forum today on diapering. We found there are lots of opinions and preferences on this topic.
Did you know that as a mother of one you will likely change 3800 Diapers. A typical baby goes through 3,800 disposable diapers in her first 2.5 years
I did not know that diapering could be such a hot topic but our moms had lots to share. That makes sense now that I know how many diapers we change per child. (I have three children so I am at around 11,000 diapers!)
We asked the moms anumber of questions and here is some of the feedback we received.
Do you find there is a difference in brand of diaper and from name brand to the store brand?
Most moms do find that one brand works better than another, this is not based on the brand but on the child. Huggies tends to fit those chubby babies better than the pampers which is good for longer babies. The Parent's Choice Brand matched up better with the longer babies as well. It is all about testing out what works for your baby.
What about Swim diapers? Are they needed?
The moms found that they definately used swim diapers when in the pool. When asked if they prefered disposible over cloth most moms prefered the cloth. They found that it fit the babies better and was also more economical since they could wash and reuse.
Diaper cream, how often do you need it?
There seems to be a lot of advice that moms receive on what cream is best. The moms agreed that diaper cream is not needed after every change but rather just when baby had irritation. They do like the Penaten clear cream for little bums.
What do you need in your diaper bag?
When asked what is needed in your diaper bag the conversation went to what type of bag is needed. It was agreed that like a purse the larger the diaper bag the more you tend to toss in there. Depending on the stage of your baby you only want a bag large enough to carry the essentials. Otherwise you end up carrying around a lot of extra items. Once your family grows to two children you need to take into consideration the added items that you will need and may have to trade up to a larger bag.
Big thanks to Walmart Canada and their Every Little Step Program for continuing to spark great conversation at our programs.
