In our Momstown Alphabet Play Program we focus on early literacy, letter names, and sounds. We try to lay the foundation for literacy skills before our children even enter school! After all, early literacy is so important for developing the whole child.
Our Momstown November theme is Me, Me, Me! So, prior to crafting our alphabet letter horses, our focus was on 'My House'. This kicked off our learning of the phonetic sound 'h'.
We made 'H' Houses and then made our 'H ' Horses that you see in this lesson plan. Since repetition of letter sounds and is the key to learning letter recognition, this focused our curriculum plans on the letter 'H'.
Our Alphabet Play program really enhanced sensorial learning, and wisely used visuals as a cue for the children to learn the letter sound 'h' quickly. Their visual memory is an effective learning tool!
During this program we also opened up the Discovery Box to find all sorts of words and items that start with the letter 'H'.
Children (and parents!) had a chance to play 'I Spy', by using our Eye Spy Bottle filled with 'H' items to spot (i.e. hats, horseshoes).
The children enhanced their manual dexterity, fine motor, visual, and perceptual skills by completing sponge house puzzles.
And just to top it all off, the children were able to enjoy a delicious snack of Post Alpha-Bits while Miss Christine read "In A People House"!
We encourage you to come join in on the fun at our Alphabet Play Program, and the various other interesting programs that Momstown offers! You won't want to miss out on the experience! Learning is fun!
