It’s great to be Canadian, eh? Well……it was another fun, exciting, and truly Canadian week at momstown Belleville, as our Program Pass Holders ‘dashed through the snow’ (I mean, dashed through the grass!) to get here on time for our Tales for Tots Program! They dashed, we marched, we sang, we played.
Our Tales for Tots Program is proudly sponsored by Scholastic Canada – a company that believes in ‘connecting kids to books they’ll love to read!’ And, connecting kids and families is what we do best, in partnership with Scholastic, here at momstown!
Last week, at Tales for Tots, momstown’s early childhood facilitator, Christine, organized fun activities based on the book ‘Dashing Through the Snow – A Canadian Jingle Bells’, by Helaine Becker and Werner Zimmerman. This book is a companion to last year’s Scholastic bestseller entitled: ‘A Porcupine in a Pine Tree: A Canadian 10 Days of Christmas’. On the Scholastic website, this book is noted as having the same jolly rhymes and infectious energy (as its’ companion book) and puts a Canadian twist on Jingle Bells.
All of Christine’s jolly program activities were geared to enhancing vocabulary development and literacy, story-time comprehension and listening skills, as well as gross (creative movement and dance) and fine motor skills (stringing bells on ribbon and pipe cleaners; colouring). The program participants (including parents) were ‘laughing all the way’, as they danced to this song (a spin-off of a familiar tune):
We’re marching in the snow,
We’re marching in the snow,
Hi-ho, the wind will blow,
As we’re marching in the snow.
So, if you are looking to have fun this winter, then jingle all the way down to momstown in Belleville (100 Station Street) for your annual Program Pass!
Also, for Christmas this year, be sure to order( from Scholastic Canada) the MUST-HAVE, MUST-GIVE book for the holidays, Dashing Through the Snow – A Canadian Jingle Bells, by Helaine Becker and Werner Zimmerman. (For ages 3-7)
