Well, Ontario’s apple season has officially come to a close. But, that doesn’t mean the end of apples for us! If you are like me, you still have quite a bountiful supply of them in storage. They may either be tucked away in our cellars, in a cardboard box or basket, or I have even heard of storing them for 2-3 months, wrapped individually in newspaper pieces! Wherever you need to dig them out of, gather up four or five apples (and kids- if that pertains to you!), and head on into the kitchen to make a special apple treat together!
This month, Momstown Belleville’s Junior Chefs made good ole’ fashioned applesauce with locally grown apples! Read on to find out how you can make this very ‘special’ recipe at home with the ‘apple of your eye’!!
HERE’S WHAT YOU DO:
Place apples in sauce pan over medium heat
Pour in water and bring to a simmer until apples soften and break down
Stir in sugar and cinnamon
Allow to cool slightly and serve
Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator
